| The basic food supplies are delivered to each kitchen each week by the WARMTH project at no charge. The operators however, are expected to buy other food supplies that they need to cook the food (eg
Flour, chicken etc). They are also encouraged to cook and sell meals other than the subsidised soya and rice meal, therefore build up an unsubsidised arm to their subsidised business. Many of the operators cook chicken stew, chicken feet, vetkoek, Breyani, Amarhewu (a traditional nutritional drink), pancakes etc, in order to increase their income.
The kitchens are open during working hours, Monday to Friday each week. Our customers are unemployed people, Tuberculosis patients, HIV positive people, pensioners, young children, single unemployed mothers with infants, and school children. |
